THE BUYING SHORTLIST

Choose the task. Then the tool.

A small decision framework for finding a tool you will actually use.

An editorial workflow to try with your own material. This guide does not claim results from a Perkufo product test.

Describe the finished result

Write one sentence about what you need to make: a captioned interview clip, a spoken product explanation or three excerpts from a longer recording. Add the destination and the audience. “Make a 30-second vertical clip with corrected captions” is easier to evaluate than “find a powerful AI editor”.

Separate essentials from extras

Choose three requirements you cannot compromise on. These might be an export format, the language of your material or a way to fix individual words. Keep attractive extras in a separate list. A large feature list is less helpful than a reliable route to the result you need.

Give each option the same sample

Use the same piece of material, export settings and review questions for every tool. Note what you had to correct and which steps felt awkward. A supplier demo can introduce a feature; your sample shows whether that feature fits the work in front of you.

Count the finishing work

Look beyond the first generated result. Check the time needed to correct text, adjust timing, crop the frame and export again. A tool that starts quickly may still require substantial manual editing. Record the steps rather than trusting a first impression.

Make a decision you can revisit

Save the source material and a copy of the final export. Note the plan and restrictions you checked. Start with a commitment that fits how certain you are, and review the choice after you have used it on real work. You do not have to choose a permanent tool today.
